BRAUN ATHLETIC CENTER
FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
· 3,500 square foot weight room with rubberized floors and mirrors
· Over 15 "selectorized" weight machines for strength exercises
· Free weight area
· Over 25 cardiovascular machines including treadmills, cross-trainers, rowers, stairsteppers, upright and recumbent bikes
· Braun & Brown Gymnasiums for informal basketball & volleyball. Brown Gym includes badminton, and table tennis
· Four racquetball courts
· Two international squash courts
· Two 25-yard pools and spa
· Eight tennis courts (six lighted)
· Multipurpose room with spring floor for group fitness activities
· Rock climbing room
· Two multi-use fields
· All-weather 400 meter track
· Heavy bag and speed bag area

FACILITY GUIDELINES
WEIGHT ROOM AND CARDIOVASCULAR AREA
TO INCREASE SAFETY:
· Shoes are required. Open-toe shoes are not permitted.
· Collars are recommended on all free weight bars.
· Weight belts and spotters are recommended for heavy lifts.
· A smooth, controlled motion should be used in both lift & recovery.
· As a precaution against choking, gum is not permitted.
TO PROTECT THE EQUIPMENT AND IMPROVE HEALTH CONDITIONS:
· All participants must wear a shirt. A full t-shirt is preferred to help protect the equipment from excess perspiration.
· It is recommended that workout clothing be laundered regularly.
· Participants are encouraged to use a towel and wipe perspiration from upholstery and equipment. (paper towels & spray disinfectant provided)
· Weights should not be dropped or slammed.
· Jeans and cut-off shorts are not allowed.
AS A COURTESY TO OTHERS:
· Weight plates should be removed from equipment and re-racked after use.
· Equipment and weights should not be taken from the room. Dumbbells should remain in designated area.
· Cardiovascular machine use is limited to 25 minutes when others are waiting.
· Lifters should not monopolize equipment between sets.
GYMNASIUM
TO PROTECT THE FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT:
· Gymnasium use for informal recreation is limited to basketball,
volleyball, table tennis, and badminton.
AS A COURTESY TO OTHERS:
· Recreation staff will make every effort to equitably accommodate
all users during informal recreation time.
· Individuals playing "pick-up ball" should decide on rules that
are fair and allow for all to play. If individuals on the court
are unable to come to agreement the following guidelines should
be used:
-Losing team players yield court to those waiting and may not play
again until all individuals waiting have played.
-Winning team limited to two consecutive games when others are waiting
-First team to 11 points wins.
-Disagreements are decided by a 3-pt. Shot
TO INCREASE SAFETY:
· Players who commit "cheap shot" fouls may be asked to leave the
facility and face suspension of use privileges.
RACQUETBALL/SQUASH COURTS
TO SAFETY:
· Protective eyewear is strongly recommended.
TO PROTECT THE FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT:
· Informal use is limited to racquetball, squash, and
wallyball.
AS A COURTESY TO OTHERS:
· Play is limited to one hour when others are waiting.
TENNIS COURTS
TO PROTECT THE FACILITY:
· Courts limited to tennis only.
AS A COURTESY TO OTHERS:
· Play is limited to two hours when others are waiting.
FIELDS
TO PROTECT THE FACILITY AND INCREASE SAFETY:
· Only approved golf practice is permitted.
· Only "large ball" sports are permitted on South Field.
· Animals, bicycles, and vehicles are not permitted.
TO PROTECT THE FACILITY:
· Fields may be closed due to weather and maintenance.
ROCK CLIMBING ROOM
TO INCREASE SAFETY:
· Use is recommended only for experienced, responsible,
cautious climbers.
· The wearing of jewelry during climbing is discouraged.
TO PROTECT THE FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT:
· Climbing shoes are recommended.
AS A COURTESY TO OTHERS:
· Use of chalk should be limited to confined chalk.
· Lights should be off, door secured, and key returned when finished.
ALUMNI POOL AND BRAUN POOL
TO INCREASE SAFETY:
· The Braun and Alumni Pools are only open for recreational
swimming when a Lifeguard is on duty.
· Lifeguards reserve the right to close the pool or ask individuals
to leave if there are conditions present that could be harmful to
participants.
· Children age 15 and younger must be accompanied and directly supervised
by parent or responsible adult at all times.
· Parents need to be in the water with children who cannot swim.
· Running, pushing, rough play, "dunking", and throwing objects
are not permitted in or around the pools.
· Floatation devices are subject to lifeguard approval.
· Diving prohibited in areas with a NO DIVING sign-3'-5' depth.
· Diving Boards:
-One bounce on the board during Recreational Swim
-One person is allowed on the diving board at a time.
-Divers need to wait until the person before them reaches the side.
-Divers must dive straight off the end of the board
· When the Lifeguard blows the whistle please stop and listen for
any announcements:
-One short blast: Attention
-One long blast: Clear the Pool
TO PROTECT EQUIPMENT AND IMPROVE HEALTH
CONDITIONS:
· Appropriate swimwear must be worn in the pool. No cut-off
shorts; and for infants and toddlers swim diapers must be worn.
· Only designated pool shoes are allowed in the water.
· Hanging on the lane lines is not permitted.
· Sunscreen is recommended. Tanning oil is not allowed.
· Swimmers should shower before entering the water.
· Individuals infected with identified communicable diseases or
open sores must stay out of the water.
· Glass objects are not allowed on deck.
· Food, beverages, chewing gum, and tobacco are not permitted.
AS A COURTESY TO OTHERS:
· Lap swimming has priority over "free play".
· Splashing, spitting and spouting water are not allowed.
· "Circle" swimming occurs when there are more than one person per
lane.
STURTEVANT MEMORIAL SPA
TO INCREASE SAFETY:
· Spa should not be used by anyone alone. There is no
lifeguard on duty.
· Elderly persons, pregnant women, infants and those with health
conditions requiring medical care should consult with a physician
before use.
· Hot water immersion while under the influence of alcohol, drugs,
or medicine may lead to serious consequences and is not recommended.
· Long exposure may result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting.
AS A COURTESY TO OTHERS:
· Maximum occupancy is eight people.
FOX STANTON TRACK
TO INCREASE SAFETY:
· Recreational runners & walkers should use lanes 4-6.
· Users should be cautious of field sport activities.
TO PROTECT THE FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT:
· Animals, bicycles, skateboards, inline skates, scooters,
and motorized vehicles are not permitted.
AS A COURTESY TO OTTHERS:
· Track users should run/walk in a counterclockwise direction.
LOCKER ROOMS
TO INCREASE SAFETY:
· Always keep personal items securely locked.
TO PROTECT FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT:
· Please dry off thoroughly before entering locker areas.
· To prevent locker damage, wet items should not be placed in lockers.
AS A COURTESY TO OTHERS:
· Due to concerns of fellow participants, please do not
bring children over the age of 4 into the Locker Room of the opposite
gender.
· Used towels should be placed in the hampers for laundering.
· Items stored on top of lockers may be collected and donated to
charity.
