Head Coach Roy Dow
The 2007-2008 season marks the sixth year at Caltech for head coach Roy Dow. Immediately prior to Caltech, Coach Dow served 4 seasons at his alma mater Colby College including a season as the interim head coach whil e Head Coach Richard Whitmore was on sabbatical. In all, Coach Dow has 22 years of successful collegiate coaching experience primarily at the NCAA Division III level.

After graduating from Colby in 1984, the 2 sport athlete (basketball and baseball) immediately pursued the teaching/coaching profession. In each of the first 2 years beyond college, he was an assistant to high school teams that reached the state championship game. An invitation from Coach Whitmore to return to Colby as an assistant was extended and accepted. Serving an apprenticeship for 2 seasons alongside Coach Whitmore (32 yrs at Colby, 577-302, 14 All-Americans) and the legendary assistant John "Swisher" Mitchell (Waterville, High and University of Rhode Island fame as well as 42 years at Colby) allowed Coach Dow to gain a solid foundation coaching and recruiting within a highly selective admissions environment
at a national college.

Midway through the second season as an assistant, Coach Dow at 26 years of age was named the first head coach of the men's basketball program at Wheaton College ( Massachusetts). Previously an all-women's college, he readily accepted the unique challenge of building an NCAA Division III men's program from scratch. The Wheaton program immediately established itself with the effort and intensity of players. Using a motion offense that embraced the 3-point shot and relied primarily on a man-to-man defense, the growth and improvement of the team and individuals was evident despite the 4-22 record. In each of the next 2 seasons the victory total increased, surpassing the .500 mark and earning a regional ranking. The meteoric rise of the program culminated with a 20-5 record and a postseason invitation in the fourth and fifth years of existence. The foundation was set on the following principles: play hard, be physically fit, improve together, play with intelligence, toughness, and resourcefulness. Success followed.

Dow spent the next 3 years at Division I Holy Cross (Worcester, Massachusetts) gaining invaluable national recruiting experience. One season at Division II Chaminade of Honolulu furthered his national recruiting and coaching perspective before he returned to Colby. Of the 16 collegiate teams he has led or assisted before Caltech, 12 have had winning seasons. He has also coached 1 National Player of the Year and 5 All-Americans at the NCAA Division III level as well as numerous all-conference or all-region selections at NCAA III Wheaton, at Division I Holy Cross/Patriot League and Division II Chaminade/PacWest.
