May 12th - Oxy Invitational

Matt Kiesz moves to the #2 spot on the Men's All-Time top 10 list in the 1500m with a time of 3:56.24. This is a 3 second PR for Matt and a great way to end his junior season. He was very close to qualifying (provisionally) for the NCAA Division III national championships, for which the time is 3:55.20.

April 28th - Whittier, CA - SCIAC Prelims
Junior, Elette Boyle leads the way for the Caltech women with All-SCIAC honors in both the triple and high jumps. On the men's side, Matt Kiesz qualified for the finals in both the 800m and 1500m. Teammate Zack Higbee qualified for the finals in the 110mHH, Higbee will also challenge his personal best in an attempt to garner All-SCIAC honors in the pole vault.

April 14, 2007 - Junior, Elette Boyle was the Caltech's top female performer at Saturday's SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet. She finished 3rd in the high jump with a jump of 5' - 0 1/4", which tied the school record.


The Caltech women finished just 3 points behind the University of LaVerne. Boyle also finished 4th in the triple jump with a jump of 34'- 11" which broke her own school record by 1 - 1/2". Natalya Kostandova had a great 1500m run and with her PR, she has moved on the top ten all time list in the #10 spot.

The men's team defeated both the University of LaVerne and Whittier College. Matt Kiesz moves up to #3 on the all time top ten list with his 3rd place finish in the 1500m with a time of 4:00.03. Zach Higbee also had a great day by placing 4th in pole vault with a jump of 12' - 5 1/2". Higbee also placed 8th in the 110m high hurdles. Yezdan Badrakan, coming off an injury finished 6th in the 400m with a time of 52.22

The Beavers now prepare for the SCIAC Conference meets to be held on Saturday, April 28th (prelims) and Monday, April 30th (finals) at Whittier College.

Saturday, March 31st - CAL NEVADA STATE MEET
Junior Matt Kiesz places 6th with a time of 4:00.61 in the Men's 1500m. Matt shaved over 4.5 seconds off of his time in the in prelims and moves up to #4 on the Caltech Men All-Time Top 10 list. "This race had a definate change of pace with 700m to go that was both difficult and exciting and really marked the start of the race to the finish. Exposure to the competition in this race has really changed my outlook on how a 1500m race can unfold", comment Kiesz.
The Beavers will be in action again on Saturday, April 7th at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.

Friday, March 30th - CAL NEVADA STATE MEET

Matt Kiesz places 9th with a time 4:05.22 in the Men's 1500 Meeting Run at the prelims of Cal-Nevada State Championship Meet contested at Fresno State. Matt will compete on Saturday, March 31st in the finals at 2:40pm. Kiesz holds the #5 spot on the Caltech Men's All-Time Top 10 list with a time of 4:02.55 which marked at Mt. SAC during this year's Ben Brown Invitational Meet hosted by CSU Fullerton.

Friday, March 16th - Caltech Has Record Performances at the Oxy Distance Carnival

Junior, Katherine Breeden broke the Caltech record for 10,000m with time of 43:23 at Oxy. While Junior, Matt Kiesz moved up to number 5 on the Men's All-Time Top 10 in the 800m with a time of 1:55.81.

Saturday, March 10th - Caltech's Matt Kiesz competes in the 1500m In the Ben Brown Invitational at Mt. SAC


The men's and women's track teams had some great performances at the Ben Brown Invitational, Matt Kiesz (JR) earned the #5 spot on the Men's All Time Top 10 list in the 1500m with a time of 4:02.55. In addition, Natalya Kostandova (FR) took possesion ofthe #8 spot on the Women's Aall time Top 10 list in the 5000m with a time of 21:18.35. Katherine Breeden (JR) bettered her time in the 5000m and remains in the #7 spot with a time of 20:53.08.

The Beavers now host a home meet on Saturday, March 17th against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, Whittier College, California Lutheran, College of St. Scholastica (MN) and Soka University.

Beavers On Track, Open At Home Then On To CSUN
February 22, 2007 - Following the first two all-comer meets of the year, the Caltech track and field teams are ready to start their official track season. At both the Caltech and CSUN All-Comers meets, the Beavers enjoyed great weather which led to super early season marks. Tencia Lee bettered her mark on the All Time Top 10 List in the 200m. Tech also had a breakout performance by freshman female sprinter, Bettina Chen as she debuted on to the All Time Top 10 List in the 200m as well. Caltech is heading to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps this weekend to compete in the 11th Annual Rossi Relays.

2007 Track & Field Outlook

IT'S TRACK SEASON!

The 2007 Caltech men's and women's squads will look to improve on last year's performance. As the team prepares for the first meet on February 10th, they know that they have their work cut out for them. In 2006 the men's team finished 6th and the women finished 8th in the SCIAC.
On the men's side, the team be led by senior Mark Eichenlaub and junior Matt Kiesz. Both Eichenlaub (5000) and Kiesz (800) placed in the Top 6 at the 2006 conference championships. "our hurdle and sprint groups are young this season and focused on gaining the strength and experience to be competitive in the coming years" commented Coach Julie Levesque.
On the women's side, the team will be led by juniors Rene Davis (multi-events), Elette Boyle (jumps) and Katherine Breeden(distance). Davis (javelin) and Breeden (1500) were finalists at last season's conference championships. Boyle holds the Caltech record in the heptathlon. "This team is very young, and should be be very strong for years to come. Both the men's and women's teams are looking forward to the challenges the 2007 season presents", noted Coach Levesque

2006 SCIAC CHAMPIONSHIPS - REDLANDS, CA (April 25th)
Leibs defends his title as Conference Champion. Men's Track Team finishes 6th and the Women finish in 8th place at SCIAC Championships at University of Redlands on April 24 and 25.


Jeremy Leibs repeated as the 110mHH champion with a winning time of 14.96. This time brings Leibs very close to the NCAA qualifying time (14.90) and with two meets left as strong possibility to represent Caltech in Lister, IL at 2006 NCAA National Championships in May. Leibs also finished (11.28) within .02 in 100m being edged out by Matt Ezer of CMS.

Senior, Helen Tai had an outstanding race herself in the 100mHH bettering her own school record from 15.86 to 15.36. Helen ended her SCIAC career with a 3rd place finish which is her best. She also competed in the 400mH coming in 4th with a time of 70.40, another personal best.

The men's 4X400 relay team comprised of 3 seniors and a sophomore finished 3rd with a season best tim of 3:23.25. Seniors, Tim Tirrell, Stuart Ward and Patrick Boyle finished 2nd, 3rd and 5th respectively in the open 400m.

Basketball standout, Jordan Carlson had a lifetime best in the High Jump with a leap of 6 foot 2-3/4 inches, which placed him in 3rd and along with All-SCIAC honors.

Other All Conference honors went to: Natalie Szweda 4th place in the Pole Vault, Mark Eichenlaud 6th place in 5000m, Matt Kiesz 6th place the 800m, Rene Davis 6th place in the Javelin, Men's 4X100 placed 5th and the Women's 4X400 placed 6th.
